I help clients manage risk and seize opportunity. My practice is corporate, commercial and regulatory, with a deep understanding of the rapidly changing technologies shaping our world: drafting and negotiating the agreements that hold a company together, responding to operational realities and designing the corporate structures — alongside my clients’ accountants and other advisors — that optimize for tax, ownership and compliance. I approach my work the way the best in-house counsel do: close to the business and thinking a few moves ahead.
This is not a view from the sidelines. In addition to my work with Furthermore Law, I co-own and serve as Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel at ECAD Labs Inc., a Vancouver-based commercial software development consultancy with extensive experience building and maintaining open-source blockchain development and infrastructure tools. I am also a director of Shipco Circuits NA Inc., the Vancouver-based parent of Irish printed-circuit-board manufacturer Shipco Circuits.
Traditional private practice tends to isolate the legal problem — the file, the clause, the question in front of you. Running a business is the opposite: holistic and collaborative, every decision connected to the people and priorities around it. That is the context legal work so often lacks, the problem that Furthermore Law was built to help solve.
Born and raised in Vancouver, I studied business administration at SFU’s Beedie School of Business before earning my law degree at the University of British Columbia, where I later taught land law at the Sauder School of Business and co-authored the Annotated British Columbia Society Act. I was called to the bar in 2013 and am a practising member of the Law Society of British Columbia. At home, two young children keep my negotiation skills sharp — relentless counterparties, entirely unmoved by precedent, unless it involves dessert. Working at the intersection of law, business and technology was always the plan, and it remains the most useful thing I contribute to my clients’ success.
